About Coach
Matt discovered CrossFit in late 2019 at Towson Fitness in Maryland. With a lifelong interest in fitness, he was drawn to CrossFit as a new and challenging way to stay active and he was instantly hooked. In 2021, Matt relocated to Raleigh, NC, to pursue a Master’s degree in Physiology at NC State University. Although he initially took a break from CrossFit to focus on school, it only took one semester for him to realize he needed to get back in the gym. That’s when he found CrossFit SERVE, and from the first visit, he knew it was the right fit.
After two years of training as an athlete at SERVE, Matt felt inspired to take the next step and began coaching. He earned his CrossFit Level 1 certification in October 2023 and joined the coaching team at CrossFit SERVE soon after. Wanting to deepen his ability to help others reach their goals, he also became a NASM Certified Personal Trainer.
Matt sees CrossFit as something that should be accessible to everyone, regardless of experience or fitness level. His coaching style reflects the belief that fostering a welcoming environment where all athletes can grow, move, and challenge themselves at their own pace. He thrives on the camaraderie and energy of the SERVE community, describing it as a place to "sweat with and yap with," whether you’re going all out or just showing up to move.
His favorite CrossFit movements are rowing and wall balls, while thrusters sit firmly at the bottom of the list. A quote that guides his mindset, both in and out of the gym is from John Lennon: “There are no problems, only solutions.”
Fun fact: Matt used to have a pet toad as a kid. His dream vacation is exploring Italy from Rome to Florence to Naples. And while he never forgets his grips, he knows the real essential is showing up ready to improve.
